In pages 188 and 189 Larry Crabb shares some of what he might say and what God might say in a conversation about his problems. I will quote just selections of Gods input. "You want me to prove my goodness on your terms. But if I yield to your demand, you will not TRUST me; you will rather come to think you OWN me.............." "If you look for evidence of my goodness in what you see around you and inside you, you will reach a terribly wrong conclusion. You will conclude that sometimes I am good and sometimes I am not. But if you look for evidence of my goodness in the way things will be one day, if you are willing to believe that I am at work now to prepare for that day, and if you ponder the meaning of my death, then you will realize that all the badness in the world.......can no more conquer my goodness than a child can outwrestle a man. "To the degree that you develop confidence in my goodness, you will be able to live as I have lived. While I hung on the cross, I was looking out for others, not myself. I defended against nothing; I simply expressed my love for my Father and my commitment to his plan. And I never violated the requirements for worship. You can learn to do it, too, in the middle of your unresolved problems." Page 210 is where I will end my quotes of this book (for a while any way). There is so much I couldn't share here. The book is very much worth your time. "God knows everything about you. He is thoroughly aware of all the personal struggles that threaten to undo you. He knows your history and your present life, all of it. And all he says to you is,"Christ." In previous days, God distributed bits and pieces of information, and he gave it to us in a variety of ways. But now he tells us that everything he made known earlier is more fully revealed in Christ. That is his final speech: 'Christ!' There is no more to say." |
